This final screenshot has what zero points after and single spacing looks like. The following screenshot I changed the Word document example to zero points after using the Page Layout tab–>Paragraph group–>after section. Let’s now look at a document with the default settings. To open this, click the tiny arrow pointing down in the corner of the Paragraph group of the Home tab in either Word 2007 or Word 2010. The first screen shot you see here is a dialog box of the default paragraph settings. Of course you can change that distance by changing the points after as you will see in my following screen shots. Got it, great, I’m glad you asked how many inches are in 10 points. Alright, so what happens every time you hit the enter key in Word now is that the insertion point will move down 10 points. So 10 points is 0.1388888888888889 inches. Locate the Paragraph group and click the arrow at right bottom corner Paragraph dialog box appears In Indents and Spacing section click the drop down. What you might not know is that 72 points equals 1 inch. There are two types of indents that can be adjusted: paragraphs and bullet points. You are used to points every time you change the font size ( example Arial 12 points). Place the insertion point at the very beginning of the paragraph. This will create a first-line indent of 1/2 inch. Let me first start by explaining what is a point. A quick way to indent is to use the Tab key. For example, in Word 2003 it was set to zero points after and single line spacing.

This is much different than the previous versions of Word.

The default paragraph setting for Word 2007 or Word 2010 is 10 points of space after a paragraph and 1.15 line spacing within a paragraph.
